How To Throw a Lilo and Stitch Birthday Party in One Week
My daughter Kate just turned six, and Stitch has been her favorite little alien for the last year or so. When she asked for a Lilo and Stitch party, I said yes immediately — and then proceeded to start planning exactly one week before her birthday. While I am not a party expert, I am an anxious virgo who loves to make magic for my kids. This was one of my favorite party themes so far — everything was so cute, and I found some relatively easy decor ideas. I was somewhat limited since I had a week, but I made it work, and threw what felt like the perfect Lilo and Stitch birthday party for my daughter.
Planning a Lilo and Stitch Birthday Party in One Week
I’m sharing the best Stitch party ideas — the party supplies, the food, the craft table, the face painter who I cannot recommend enough. Plus the shaved ice truck that I definitely didn’t need to book but absolutely do not regret. Links to everything I used for our Disney Stitch birthday party below.
Lilo and Stitch Birthday Decor
I would have likely found a few things on Etsy had I given myself more than a week to plan this party, but found some gems on Amazon that all came pretty quickly. You could go brighter, but I decided on blue, pink, and purple balloons since my daughter loves those colors. There are a few themed balloons to choose from, but the Stitch I chose was my favorite.
I used the glue dots from the balloon garland kit to stick balloons to our ceiling, and then stuck a little piece of streamer around each one.
Custom Lilo and Stitch Banners
I made not one but two custom banners. The first couldn’t have been easier, and was made in Canva. I bought these graphics, created a 2×6′ custom file, and had it printed at Walgreens.
Since I have ADHD and zero self-control, I decided to whip up a banner with my Cricut the day before the party. I added the same graphics, plus some hibiscus flowers and leaves. It wasn’t hard, but required feeding over 30 sheets into the Cricut and assembly, so it was definitely a little time consuming, but so worth it.
This was my first time using these double sided foam dots to add dimension to the banner. I’m so happy with how it turned out! I used to be so confused by the Cricut, so if this is helpful, you send the actual images (like stitch) through a printer, and then the Cricut cuts them. All other shapes are on cardstock.
The Face Painter
My friend recommended Maria who by some sort of miracle happened to be available less than a week out! We were all so impressed with everything about her. First, she asked me which character she should come dressed as. Her setup couldn’t have been more professional, she was great with the kids, and her face painting is incredible! And so it’s clear, I did not ask for or receive a discount on her services. If you’re in the Chicago area, I cannot recommend her enough. Everyone got their face painted, and could choose something fun on their arm, too. The kids were so happy — she was a huge hit!
Food and Dessert
We kept things really simple by ordering pizza for lunch. I threw a veggie platter together and we served fruit, chips, and juice boxes. My favorite baker closed her doors, and I had a week to plan anyways, so I picked up some plain cupcakes at Whole Foods and added some cute sprinkles and this candle. Boom.
The Craft Table
Crafting is probably one of my favorite things to do with my kids, so a craft table is basically a prerequisite. In order to keep things clean, I opted to avoid paint and glue. Everyone got a bag charm, and a heart shaped box and picture frame to bedazzle with gem stickers. I took a polaroid photo of each of the girls after they had their face painted, and that photo went inside the picture frame. The girls had a blast! And bonus: these crafts made the perfect party favors.
A Hawaiian Shaved Ice Truck
I probably took things too far with this one, but you only turn six once, and shaved ice is one of my daughters’ favorite sweet treats. I emailed Kona Ice, assuming they wouldn’t be available, and that it would probably be too expensive. But — they happened to have availability at the end of the party which was such a fun surprise for the kids and a fun note to end on. I couldn’t believe how affordable it was compared to other options. At $165 for 30 cups of shaved ice, or 20 larger color changing cups, it felt like such a great deal, especially compared to Rainbow Cone, which has a 100 person minimum and costs around $1,500. A snow cone truck also couldn’t have been more perfect for a Stitch-themed party.
My daughter had the best day, and I loved seeing her so happy. There is something so fun about throwing a party for a kid who is completely in their element. She was smiling ear to ear, and that made every last-minute decision worth it. If your kid loves Stitch, I hope this gives you a starting point and serves as a reminder that you don’t need months (or even weeks) of planning to make it special.
