The Best Gifts for 8 Year Olds in 2026

Eight is a really fun age to shop for — they know exactly what they want. They’re past the obvious little kid stuff but they’re still little (just don’t tell them that). Eight is the age where they have real opinions, real interests, and a pretty good sense of what’s cool. So I put together a list of the best gifts that actually reflect that. My (almost) eight-year-old asked for scented hand sanitizer, Mini Brands, and lip gloss. But she also wants more tiny things for her dollhouse.
The Best Gifts for 8 Year Olds
This list has something for every kind of 8 year old. For the creative kid, craft kits like the BaubleBar bag charm kit and watercolor paints are favorite gifts that will actually get used. Young readers will love the Baby-Sitters Club graphic novels — and if they’re into drawing, How to Draw Anything for Kids is a great gift that doubles as an activity. Board games like Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza and Would You Rather are the best part of any family night. For kids who live outside, the light-up soccer ball and gymnastics mat cover your sports equipment bases. And if you have a gamer, the Nintendo Switch 2 is the perfect gift and probably the most-requested item of the year. The best part? This list works for birthdays, holidays, or any time you need a good gift idea without overthinking it.
Craft Kits & Creative Gifts
Eight is the best age for crafts. Kids this age have the patience and skills to try creating new things. I never loved playing pretend with my kids, but I love crafting with them, so I am loving this stage. From watercolor paints to friendship bracelets, these are the gifts that keep them busy for hours and feel like play even when they’re learning.
Games and Puzzles
Board games and card games are some of my favorite gifts for this age because they’re fun for the whole family. Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza is a guaranteed hit — we play this one all the time.
Toys and Trinkets
These are the fun, slightly random finds that 8 year olds absolutely love. The Mini Brands, the tiny collectibles, and other fun trinkets.
Books for Young Readers
Eight is a great reading age and graphic novels are the gateway for kids who think they don’t like books. The Baby-Sitters Club series is a classic for a reason, and How to Draw Anything for Kids counts as both a book and an activity.
Sports & Active Play
For the kid who needs to move — the light-up soccer ball is a favorite for backyard and after-dark play, the gymnastics mat is perfect for the kid who won’t stop doing cartwheels in your living room, and the Woom bike is worth every penny.
Beauty & Accessories
Eight year olds are just starting to get into this stuff and these picks are cute and age-appropriate. The Caboodle makeup box is the most fun throwback that’s great for tiny trinkets, art supplies, or beauty products. And the foam body wash has made baths and showers extra fun.
Tech & Gadgets
I was very anti Nintendo Switch, but my kids get to earn a little time to play on the weekend, and it’s something we can all do together as a family. Bonus — it will buy me an hour of free time on a rainy day. The Toybox 3D Printer looks amazing, and a digital camera is perfect for budding photographers.
