The grief of losing a pet is its own kind of heartbreak. And I know it’s all I’ve talked about this week, but after hearing from so many of you who felt alone in their grief, it feels important to share what I’m going through.

This loss doesn’t minimize other tragedies. There’s so much happening in our country and the world. It’s still ok to grieve. No one should feel shame for grieving the loss of a pet.

For the last 17 years, home was wherever Buddy was. The quiet feels so deep, and I find myself looking for him. Sometimes, I think hear his paws, and every morning, I expect to wake up to him letting me know he’s ready to go outside. I hate setting the alarm at night, since we always let him out one last time. 💔

I also feel so unbelievably grateful to have had him in my life, and this pain is the price of one of the greatest loves I’ll ever know.

Tell me about a pet that changed your life. Share a favorite memory. How long were they by your side? What did they mean to you? What do you miss most?

It’s been a hit with all three kids. My son used to sit in front of the tree and watch in awe at 6 months old. 🎄🎅🏻 #holidays #christmastree #christmastime
