We had big plans for today. Margot was going to go to her first dance class with a friend, we were supposed to meet the family of one of the girls in her class at the zoo, and Conor and I have dinner plans with a friend I met at the pool over the summer.

We’re putting things on hold for a cozy movie day in bed since Margot has a little fever. She’s fine and I’m just so relieved we don’t have to rush to the ER like we did for years.

We don’t *have to* stay home. We *get to* stay home. Perspective ✨

YOU ARE MAGIC ✨ Our newest @aliceandwonder collaboration is here ✨💛🎗 exactly two months after Margot rang the bell marking the end of treatment for Leukemia, and at the end of childhood cancer awareness month.

All children are magic, and all children deserve to get to continue to spread their magic. The back of each sweatshirt says “more than four” since less than 4% of government funding for cancer goes toward our kids. And they deserve so much more.

$10 from each sweatshirt goes directly to our @alexslemonade fundraiser to fund life-saving treatment for the approximately 47 children diagnosed with cancer every day.

But it gets better! Today - Friday, 10% of ALL SALES storewide will also go to our fundraiser. I can’t think of a better time to shop for fall or holiday.

It’s national daughters day. And I have been thinking a lot about the life I *get to* live now. About the little moments like taking Kate to music class, planning play dates, watching my girls splash in the pool, and making new friends at preschool. These completely normal, expected, ordinary moments that feel so big. Then there are the moments that never would have been moments at all. Like watching Margot walk up and down the stairs with ease (something she couldn’t do not too long ago). I get to do this.

I always hoped that I’d have a daughter someday, but had no idea it would be THIS good. They are more than I could have dreamed of.

As a child, love was extremely conditional, and manipulation and verbal abuse were sadly normal. So to get to parent my two girls (imperfectly of course) but with unconditional love is a gift. That love wasn’t really modeled for me, but they make loving them so easy. To be clear - parenting is the hardest thing I’ve ever done but the love? That’s easy.

So happy national daughters day to my two best girls. Stay strong-willed and silly. Never stop fighting for what you believe in, and always see the magic in everything the way you do now. I’ll always be in your corner and will always believe in you. I love you, my girls.

I am not a food blogger 😂 (I mean duh) but started making this egg white turkey wrap and it’s SO good and what kind of friend would I be if I didn’t share this quick/easy/healthy lunch with you? It’s paleo and KETO friendly and nothing fancy but I love it. I’ve been having it (ok 2 of them) every day this week. 😋

We survived approximately 9,276 hours (ok really 18 hours) on 2 ✈️ with our 2 and 4 year-olds. The flight there wasn’t bad but that flight home was next-level. 🫣I want to share the best toys I packed for our trip and the ones that didn’t work for us, too.

But really, I can’t stress how important it is to share that the trip was a trip and not a vacation, and that it was kind of hard. And not that relaxing. Did we have a great time? Yes. Am I grateful for the experience? Of course. But was it easy and perfect? My god no. 😂 I don’t want parents of young kids to feel like they *should be* taking big trips with their little kids or that it was this perfect, instagram-worthy dream trip. I’m not doing a trip like this again until they’re older. My next trip will be a vacation. This was wonderful but not very vacation-y.

So tell me: At what age would you fly internationally with your kids? The girls were GREAT (so proud of them) but I’m thinking the youngest needs to be 6. Or maybe 10?

Thought I’d dive right back in to work but had my sister here with us (she just left), we’re all adjusting to the time change, and I’m organizing and making things spooky (or “pooky” if you ask Kate) for the girls.

Our new bed came yesterday, and we have our new washer/dryer and curtain install tomorrow! Feeling motivated but it’s been weeks since I’ve sat at a computer and it’s been an adjustment. More soon! 🦇💀🎃

This is 40 ✨🎂

40! I can’t believe my 30s are over. Over the last decade, I started a company, met my husband and got married, had 2 girls, we bought and sold our first home, bought our second home, sold my company, started another company, went into blogging full-time, and made it through a pandemic and cancer diagnosis. Ok, that’s a lot. Maybe it didn’t fly by like I think it did?

40 isn’t the scary thing I imagined it would be years and years ago but it’s a bit strange - it’s hard to explain. It just feels so…official? Ha.

If I’ve learned anything over the last decade, it’s that we just keep getting better with age. And a number isn’t something that defines us. It’s who we are, what we’ve learned, how we love others, and what we do in our lives (how we spend our days, how we make a difference) that matters. I am who I was 10 years ago. I am who I was 20 years ago. But we grow and become better versions of ourselves.

I’m going into my 40s more confident, a little wiser, and I know now more than ever what matters. There’s no room for bs and for the first time ever, I’m starting a new decade with a deeper understanding of who I am. I’m spending my days in a way that matters. I don’t allow people to tear me down the way I used to. And that all feels pretty damn good.

So cheers to 40. To new beginnings and to starting a new year in Florence with the loves of my life.

We’re heading home this weekend and I am oddly excited to decorate for Halloween. It isn’t my favorite holiday and it’s still too early for me, but my 4 year old loves spooky things. 💀🦇🕷 And I love making magic for my kids so…I love Halloween now? Most rooms in our home are empty or under construction so things might look a little different this year, but I love a challenge. 🎃👻
