Well, I’m the mom who makes class Valentines now ❤️ I am so excited to once again partner with our family’s favorite, @wileywallaby, for Valentine’s Day. I used their classic red and watermelon (my two personal favorites) to create these DIY Valentines, and came up with some non-candy options, too. Head over to my blog to download these FREE printables and to get a full list of everything I used, grab some @wileywallaby, and create some easy DIY sweet somethings for your Valentines. #wileywallaby #wileywallabypartner #valentinesday #printable

I’m in nesting most (but when am I not?) and am trying to figure out what’s “off” in Margot’s room. A deeper pink paint might help and a less muted rug? I *love* this rug - we have the same one in our dining room. But it doesn’t feel right in here.

I have some art ready to go but am waiting on a few pieces before hanging. Confident @kiradaviddesign will solve all my problems tomorrow ✨

I’ve been getting requests for house updates but haven’t had much to share. Things are happening pretty s l o w l y here.

But the family room is coming along - we are a mantel, furniture, window treatments, and a chandelier (goes up next week!!) away from a real room.

The paneling has been removed. We lowered the dated firebox (I was very passionate about this project) 😂 and are waiting on a limestone mantel. The parquet floors (and rug pad that was fused to the floors 😳) have been replaced with wood stained to match the rest of our home. Goodbye cans! We’re installing one (beautiful) @circalighting chandelier (and lots of lamps) 💡

No one knows what will happen this year. We will experience ups and downs. Many of us will go through hard things.

I have to hope our hardest days are behind us. And just 2 days into 2023, I am full of hope. Not for perfection. Not to master a craft. Not to get everything done. Yes, I have some career plans and goals, but they’re not rigid. I’d like to make a difference - especially online. to focus more on sharing what matters most. To continue to build community here.

M than anything, I want to feel joy. I want to have slower days. To embrace those newborn days. To do the things that I couldn’t do for so long. Who can relate?

I’m going to share more about my hopes for the year and what I’m working on in therapy in my newsletter this week so sign up by clicking the link in my bio.

The first 3 photos were taken this Christmas. Time with family, holiday parties, 5 months off chemo, and a head full of beautiful curls. ✨

The last 3 were taken Christmas 2020. Margot had just finished the most aggressive block of treatment and was at risk for fevers and infection, so we lived in a bubble. And we ended 2020 and started 2021 in the hospital due to a fever. She was happy, but you can see the toll chemo took on her little body.

So to be where we are now — the things I’ve learned and the gratitude I feel…it’s pretty incredible.

All of my “goals” feel so different for this coming year. They’re all about slowing down and enjoying life and taking care of myself and my family. Making progress in healing from past traumas. Being happier and healthier. I’ll write more soon. I am so curious to hear what you’re goals are and if they are more wellness or career focused? Or something else? Let’s discuss.

I am so ready for 2023. To enjoy my girls and this baby boy on the way.

The girls were so much fun tonight. And it was especially sweet when I was putting Kate to bed and whispered “Merry Christmas, I love you” and she whispered back “Merry Christmas ya filthy animal” 😂

Can’t wait for Christmas morning 🎄🧑🏻‍🎄🎁 and for Margot to finally get “something that shoots treats” 🙈

The responses to today’s stories are a reminder that sharing the complex, real moments is what matters most. The links and house updates are fun but *this* is what brings us together. Community. Knowing we aren’t alone.

And so many of us need that this time of year.

Growing up, I used to dream of being in a happy family. And I have the family I dreamed of for what felt like forever. I did everything about 5-8 years later than the timeline I had planned for myself and it took a lifetime to find this but I am so grateful it worked out the way it did.

These girls make this season magical, but it’s not perfect - it never is. There’s healing and joy and pain and grief. And it’s ok to feel all of it.

I still grieve not having parents who love me unconditionally. Going no-contact was necessary for my mental health — for my heart and healing. But that doesn’t make it easy and this time of year magnifies every single feeling. All of it.

I watch my girls take in the magic. And maybe this won’t make sense to some of you but I watch them receive unconditional love and feel a little sad knowing I didn’t have that. I can’t wrap my mind around the thought of trying to hurt them. Of not always being in their corner. It was always *extremely* conditional for me.

I see them surrounded by the love of 2 sets of wonderful grandparents - none of them are *my* parents. It’s beautiful and there’s so much to be grateful for, but it’s hard, too.

I can’t forget about the Christmases when I woke up alone. When I wondered if this would ever happen for me. And I’m still very much in a place (and probably always will be) where I wish I had a mom who was my best friend.

So if you’re struggling today, please know you are not alone. Sending each and every one of you love this holiday season, and permission to do whatever you need to do for you.

Happy holidays ❤️

Margot’s friend (who she knows and adores) rang the bell marking the end of treatment a few weeks ago. And when we watched the video, she was given a gold medal with on a rainbow ribbon. As she (and all children in treatment) should be.

The medal is something their hospital does, and ours does not. I already emailed the hospital to see if I can change that. 😉 Margot did not understand why her friend would be given an award while she was not when they both went through the same thing.

I know can’t make everything fair for her. But nothing about cancer treatment is fair. And she’s FOUR. I think all agree that she earned it. So I found a 🏅 on Etsy, had it engraved, and gave it to her today.

It is my hope that this moment will be etched in my mind and heart forever. I presented her with her medal, and her face LIT UP. ✨ She ran up to me with the biggest smile, gave me a hug, admired her ribbon, and stepped back. Then she came back, pressed her face against mine, and thanked me. She was so proud. As she should be.

This coming week marks 5 months off-treatment. And we are less than $17,000 away from my $300,000 goal for @alexslemonade to fund better treatment options for these children. And my girl is THRIVING.

Thank you to everyone who’s been in our corner the last few years. For cheering her (us!) on. We are so grateful for you.

#ad @walgreens I cannot say what it means to me to be able to gather with family and friends this year. After the last few years of treatment, it feels so good to live again. Holiday light shows, baking, Christmas movies, family pizza party, and more. We’re hosting Christmas morning breakfast at our house and had my sister in town last week for some holiday cheer.

Cold and flu season is here, but it’s not too late to protect ourselves and others this holiday season. Knowing we are doing what we can to keep our family and others safe, by staying home if we have any symptoms and by getting our flu vaccines at @walgreens gives me peace of mind. Throughout my daughter’s treatment, we *always* relied on @walgreens for life-saving medicine and vaccines to keep us safe. There is not one other pharmacy we went to – not once. Treatment is done, but I still went to Walgreens for my flu and updated COVID-19 booster this year, like I always do. And did you know almost 80% of Americans live within 5 miles of a Walgreens? 5 miles! Book an appointment using the Walgreens app. It’s so easy.

Remember, I am not a healthcare professional, and this content is not intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Please talk to a pharmacist or healthcare provider with any questions. They are always the best resource for any vaccine questions and medical or health information.
