Let’s unpack these.

Kids are little and nighttime separation is hard for some of them. If my kids need me, or if they’re sick, they get to sleep in my bed.

My kids have never had a time out. I’ve given them time to calm down and if they want space it’s theirs, but I’ve never forced them to be alone as a result of their behavior.

I was short with my daughter the other day and apologized immediately. She said she was sorry and that she shouldn’t have not listened so I wouldn’t have been upset. We had a great talk about how listening is great, but I could have stepped outside the room, taken a deep breath etc. I didn’t control my reaction, and that’s not on her.

I have three kids. And they get to watch TV. We *try* to do no screen time on school nights, but do movie nights and morning cartoons on weekends. iPads are not kept out and they typically don’t get to use them at home unless they’re sick.

I won’t send my kids to bed hungry. If they want a snack after dinner, they can have a cheese stick and some fruit.

I’ve definitely incentivized (“bribed”) them to try new foods but never force them if they really don’t want to try something. We have also been through a LOT with food/eating so I’m careful with this one. It’s stressful.

My girls got their nails done and my 2 year-old son asked for blue toes, so I painted his toes. The following week he asked for pink toes, and he got them.

This is IMO one of the cringiest things adults can do to little kids, but I have never called a friend a “boyfriend” or “girlfriend” and while we’re at it, I will say “IF you grow up and get married” or “if you decide to be a parent” and just reference the person they marry without assuming who that person is.

I’m sure there’s more but these were what came to mind. What’s on your list? And what on this list ISN’T on your list?

The anesthesiologist didn’t hesitate to say yes to versed but was curious why I asked for it. My other daughter went through cancer treatment and needed versed more than a dozen times before procedures. And I know my girl — like most young children, she would not do well being wheeled back without mom.

And it has to be said — this is *not* medical advice — talk to your child’s doctor.

My kids spent a decent amount of time playing iPad games and watching Bluey, but these toys kept them busy, happy, and quiet. ✨ And they got a lot of use on our trip, too.
