Opening up about mental health can be really scary. When life looks “good” and work is going well, we might feel as if we’re complaining or ungrateful, even when that isn’t the case. So many of us are struggling, and when we share our stories, we *all* feel less alone.

I was honored when artist @rileysheehey agreed to have a conversation about her experience with OCD, depression, and anxiety. Riley shows us that there’s so much more behind talent and success—that it’s a struggle for some of us, and that we can find our way.

In the latest episode of Tell Me Everything, Riley opens up about what her mental health journey has actually looked like behind the scenes: the years of managing OCD, the waves of depression and anxiety, learning to ask for help, how motherhood shifted everything.

If you’ve struggled with your mental health, love someone who does, or have ever felt like you’re supposed to “hold it all together,” this conversation is for you.

In our house, Santa brings 3 small gifts that aren’t very expensive but are personal to our kids. 🎁 grandma got them each something big and exciting, and mom and dad get the kids a handful of fun gifts (crafts, a stuffy, blanket hoodies, etc) plus their stockings. And to be clear I say “mom and dad” but we know who makes Christmas magic 🎄✨

I asked my friends what they do in order to come up with a plan and everyone’s allllll over the place.

How have you handled 🎅🏻 if you celebrate?

There’s a new episode of Tell Me Everything! 🎙️

@rileysheehey creates such beautiful, whimsical work, and she could have stopped there. Most people in her position wouldn’t use their platform to talk about mental health.

She built her business slowly while teaching art, and her talent eventually led to collaborations with brands like Ralph Lauren and Pottery Barn Kids, and most recently, she published her own illustrated edition of Little Women.

Over the years, Riley has occasionally shared glimpses of her mental health journey in the form of Instagram story frames here and there, offering honesty in a space that doesn’t always welcome it. We message from time-to-time, and have gotten to know each other through sharing our stories.

Today, for the first time, Riley opens up fully about living with OCD, depression, and anxiety, and shares how she’s finding her way as a mother and entrepreneur.

If you’ve struggled with your mental health or are at all concerned about a child or loved one, this episode will meet you where you are. Riley’s honesty is grounding, her story is deeply human, and I hope it reminds you that you’re not alone in what you’re carrying.
