bathroom ideas

When we bought our old house, we knew we would need to do a full bathroom renovation on each bathroom in our home. We started with our primary bathroom, and about two years later, took on the kids’ baths and the guest bathroom. I knew I wanted to do something simple and classic, and something that would work at any age. This is the room where my girls start their mornings. It’s where they brush their tiny teeth, and where they’ll eventually learn to tie a perfect ponytail in front of the mirror. Here’s a peek into our girls’ bathroom remodel—a simple, functional space that feels clean, with a little pop of whimsy. And a special thank you to Signature Hardware for the beautiful fixtures. We’re so happy with how this space turned out. If you’re looking for bathroom ideas for a classic look, you’ve come to the right place.

Bathroom Ideas for a Cute and Functional Kids’ Bath

When designing a bathroom for kids, it can be tempting to lean into bright colors, themed decor, or trendy finishes. But if you want a space that feels timeless, a classic approach is one of the best ways to do something that will last. Soft pink tile might sound fun now, but it’s so hard to change out. Think clean line and playful touches that can be swapped out as your kids get older. White or marble subway tile is an easy starting point. It’s durable and never goes out of style. Pair it with a penny tile or hexagon floor for a subtle nod to vintage design. A freestanding tub works beautifully for bath time, although the main bathroom upstairs has a tub, so we opted for a shower for our girls. There wasn’t room for a towel bar near the shower area in this small space, so we added a door hoo, which I prefer anyway.

Here’s a Look at the Before

Everything was very outdated, so we tore it all out. The canned bathroom lighting wasn’t doing it for me (I dislike cans so much), so we replaced the cans with one beautiful polished nickel fixture.

Let’s Talk About the Design

Small bathrooms are always fun to design and it’s amazing what a big impact new fixtures can make. I knew I wanted to keep things really clean and simple, with a few fun touches. The girls’ room is really sweet and whimsical, and the window treatments tie in so well with the color scheme in there. Michelle of White Tea and Lilac Design made our custom window treatments, and I purchased hardware from Rejuventation. I would have loved to add wallpaper like I did in this small space, but I decided to keep things simple. You can add personality with fun, changeable details like shower curtains and art. As your kids grow, you can swap out these accents without needing a full renovation.

When it came to the vanity, I was looking for functional space to store my girls’ stuff. This vanity is perfect with one drawer on top for daily essentials, and a cabinet and drawer below for additional storage. Drawers are key for being able to keep a vanity organized. The polished nickel hardware offers a refined look that won’t feel too juvenile. The key is balance: create a bathroom that feels fresh that they can grow into. By sticking with classic finishes, you’ll have a space that never feels dated. Just add layers with new life as your family grows.

I chose pivoting bathroom mirrors for both baths because I really love the classic look.
