My Living Room Before and After

I recently shared my home tour on The Everygirl, and now it’s time to show you how it all came together as I did with my last apartment. Decorating my second Chicago apartment was a process. I saw lots of potential but have to tell you–it did not happen overnight. The ceilings and walls were a horrible off white/yellow, so I painted everything. If only switching out that ceiling fan had been an option. I hate that thing. And painted the bedroom twice. Test. With. Paint. Swatches. Lesson learned.

While I kept things pretty neutral, I added some beautiful art above my sofa making this my “colorful” home. It’s a tiny little space that serves as my living room and office–and I did my best to bring these two spaces together. Let’s start with the living room!

It took a while before it looked like this. Let’s talk about it.

Taken before moving in

 Fresh coat of paint! Lovely!

moving day!

Had my dining area rug in the living room, no art, no wood in the fireplace.

My first real piece of art! And my attempt at adding color to my sofa. that did not last long.

Turned my place into the north pole for the holidays.

Wood in the fireplace, sconces, and some neutral pillows. Getting there…

Played around with the mantle. Oy.

More mantle styling. Coming together.

New rug, a few new accessories, and voila!

Oh, look. It’s Buddy. Doing his thing. In a bow tie.

kept the sofa light with neutrals and gold. shocking, I’m sure.

Once I finally bit the bullet and ordered a custom frame for that print, it all came together.

and then there’s the gnome. can’t forget the gnome.
